About
Small trips, family houses
Mekong Spirit plans private trips of two to four days that put travellers in family homes on the islets and in the villages of the Mekong Delta. This page explains how we choose houses, why we publish no reviews, and the trips we are the wrong people for.
What we do
One thing: homestay and community trips in the Mekong Delta, two to four days, private, starting and ending in Ho Chi Minh City or Can Tho. Four trips are on this site; most people adapt one. We work on An Binh islet opposite Vinh Long, on Con Son and in the Phong Dien gardens near Can Tho, and in the Ben Tre villages from the coconut lanes to Cai Mon.
We do not run cruises, day trips from the city, luxury stays, or lecture-style study tours. Other people do those well. Our trips are about an evening and a morning in someone's home, and the work and meals that fill the hours in between.
How we choose a house
- The family lives and works there. Garden, fish, workshop or nursery: the household earns from something other than guests as well.
- A few guest rooms. We prefer houses closer to the ASEAN Homestay Standard's idea of a few spare rooms than to a hall for coach groups.
- The room matches its description. We hold photos of the actual rooms and bathrooms we propose and send them with the quote.
- Neighbours involved. Boats, meals and activities from other households nearby, paid directly.
- Safety basics. Life jackets on every boat, guest rooms away from eroding banks, a clinic within reach by road.

How we work with you
- Enquiries come through the form on every page and we reply by email to the address you give.
- Quotes are lists, not single figures: household, car, guide, boats, activities and our margin.
- Your guide is with you through the day and stays overnight near the house.
- If the room is not what we described, we move you or adjust the price, on the spot.
What we do not do well
- Large groups. Above eight people we split you between neighbouring houses. If you want everyone under one roof, a big group homestay is a better fit than our trips.
- Hotel comfort guaranteed. We can often find air conditioning and a private bathroom; we cannot make a family house behave like a hotel.
- Very low budgets. A private car and a guide who stays overnight cost money. Independent travellers can book many of these households directly for much less, and we say so.
- Long multi-region journeys. Our trips stop at four days. For longer circuits of the Delta or beyond, a general operator will plan it better.
- Same-day bookings. Households need notice to prepare a room and a meal; we need it to check them.
Why there are no reviews on this site
Reviews on a company's own website are chosen by the company. We would rather give you things you can check for yourself: the name of the household, photographs of the actual room, the press articles behind every fact on this site with the date we read them, and a quote you can compare line by line with anyone else's.
Sections on this site that carry a fare, a fee, a distance or a date list their sources underneath, with the date we read them. If you find one that is out of date, tell us through the form and we will correct it.
Facts and corrections
Prices of ferries, garden entries and community activities change, and our sources are mostly Vietnamese newspapers and travel guides with their publication dates shown. Where sources disagree, we say so. Where we could not verify something, we leave it out or tell you to check it before you go, as on the Con Son overnight question and the An Binh ferry fare.

Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
Who will our guide be?
An English-speaking guide who knows the households on your route. We do not name guides on the website; your confirmation does.
Do you own the homestays?
No. The houses belong to the families who live in them. We book rooms, meals and activities from them.
Can we speak to someone before booking?
Send the form with your questions. We reply by email to the address you give, and can go back and forth as often as you need.
Do you work in languages other than English?
The site and our replies are in English. Ask in the form if you need another language for the guide; we tell you honestly whether we can.

A trip, a month and how many of you are travelling are enough to start. We reply by email with questions or a first suggestion that names the house, the room and the bathroom.
